MANILA, Philippines — Comedian and TV host Vice Ganda has lost over 199,000 Facebook followers just days after celebrating 20 million followers on the platform.
The drop to around 19.8 million followers follows backlash over a recent concert skit referencing former President Rodrigo Duterte (FPRRD) and the International Criminal Court (ICC). The joke has been criticized by Duterte supporters as disrespectful.
In response, the Davao City Council passed a resolution condemning Vice Ganda’s remarks. Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang likened the resolution to a persona non grata sentiment, stressing the need to respect the former president, a “son of Davao.”
While some speculate the follower drop was due to mass unfollows, social media analysts note that Facebook often removes inactive or fake accounts, which could also explain the decline. Vice Ganda has not yet issued an official statement.
Hashtags like #ViceGandaBacklash and #CancelCulturePH continue to trend as netizens debate the limits of comedy in political discourse.
