UST Growling Tigers defeat DLSU Green Archers and take Game 1

The UST Growling Tigers drew first blood in a very intense and close fight in Finals Game 1 against De La Salle Green Archers, 73–72. UST leads the series 1–0, and is a win closer to the 19th UAAP men's basketball title.

Playing in front of a 20,000-strong crowd, the fourth-seeded Tigers squandered an early double-digit lead, recovered in the final quarter, then survived a late-game blunder to come within one game of winning their first UAAP championship since 2006.

"Ako rin, na-shock ako!" said a visibly upbeat UST head coach Pido Jarencio after the game. "Panalo pala kami!"

Game 2 of the finals will be on Saturday, October 5 at Araneta Coliseum.
