Megan Young named Miss World Philippines 2013


Megan Lynne Young finally joined a beauty pageant which was also her dream but delayed due to her career as an actress. Last August 18, 2013, Young excelled among the 24 candidates as the 23-year old lady from the city of Olongapo was crowned as Miss World Philippines 2013 and took home P1 million worth of management contract from the pageant organizer, plus gifts and services from the contest’s sponsors.The prestigious event was held at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City.

Young, a local television personality started as one of the aspirant talent of the reality show of GMA 7 "Starstruck" but then later moved to ABS-CBN and got some hosting gigs and acting projects. Megan really wanted to be a beauty queen and when asked during the question and answer portion why she wanted to be crowned as the Miss World Philippines 2013, she said being Miss World is all about being "selfless," a virtue which, she has already committed herself to.

"If I become Miss World Philippines, I would pour my heart and my soul into helping others, which is what Miss World is [all about]: beauty and giving," Young added and told hosts Carla Abellana and KC Montero.

Palawan native Janicel Lubina placed second and was proclaimed First Princess which comes with a P150,000 prize money. Zahra Bianca Saldua from Las PiƱas City, a Muslim woman, was crowned Second Princess and got P100,000. Nueva Ecija’s Bianca Paz, who placed fourth in the pageant’s maiden edition in 2011, landed in the same spot this year and was proclaimed Third Princess and took home P75,000. Rounding up the Top 5 is Omarie Linn Osuna, 20, from Olongapo City.

Young will try to bag for the Philippines its first victory in the 63rd Miss World pageant in Indonesia on Sept. 28, 2013.
